Talk Abstract:
The principle of photoelectrochemical (PEC) processes is based on the ability of a semiconductor to absorb photons of light and generate charge carriers, such as electrons and holes. In a PEC system, a photoelectrode is used to absorb photons and generate charge carriers, which are then transferred to a second material, known as a counter electrode, through an electrochemical reaction. In this talk, Dr. Tian Zhangliu will first introduce the basic PEC process and its design criteria, and then will summarize and discuss our recent work for structure and interface engineered photoelectric materials towards the application of PEC water splitting and chemicals synthesis. He will particularly emphasize on the regulation of the photo-induced electrons and holes on the transport and collection properties during the PEC processes.
