In order to further strengthen the development of specialty characteristics and connotation, improve the overall level of specialty construction, and improve the quality of application-oriented innovative talents training, on May 6, our college held an online meeting of "high level seminar on building a first-class specialty by virtue". Professor Zhao Naiqin from the school of material science and engineering of Tianjin University, Professor Cheng Jigui from the school of material science and engineering of Hefei University of technology, Professor Wu Zhijun from the school of automotive science of Tongji University Professor Liu Xiangdong from the school of material science and engineering of Inner Mongolia University of technology, Professor Xue huaiguo from the school of chemistry and chemical engineering of Yangzhou University, and Professor Zhang Wenqing from the school of chemistry and molecular engineering of East China University of technology attended the meeting. The conference was presided over by Li Guisheng, vice dean (presiding over the work) of the college. Zhang Hua, vice president of USST, Zhang Guoqing, deputy director of the academic affairs office, Li Shengjuan, vice dean of the college, principals of various disciplines, department heads and key teachers attended the seminar.


Zhang Hua welcomed all the experts to come and give guidance. He pointed out that Shanghai University of science and technology has not slackened its professional construction while doing a good job in the battle of epidemic prevention and control. During this epidemic period, a seminar on professional construction was held. He hoped that experts would give guidance to the professional construction of the University and the college. Zhang Guoqing, deputy director of the academic affairs office, introduced the school running concept of "engineering, innovation and internationalization" and the construction of first-class disciplines, especially emphasized that the school attaches great importance to the construction of first-class disciplines at all levels in the "14th five year plan", and hoped that this seminar would provide new development ideas for the construction of first-class disciplines of the school and the college.


At the meeting, Professor Miao Yuqing, the principal of Applied Chemistry, Professor Xue Yuhua, the principal of material science and engineering, and Professor Chen Zezhong, the head of the Department of material forming and control engineering, respectively introduced their professional structure layout, professional characteristics, Faculty strength, professional connotation construction, discipline competition, talent training and integration of production and education, and put forward the shortcomings and puzzles of professional construction and development in combination with the actual situation.


According to the construction of the three disciplines, the six experts gave targeted and constructive guidance to each discipline.


According to the construction of Applied Chemistry, Professor Xue huaiguo, an expert of the Education Guidance Committee of chemistry, put forward the following suggestions: to accurately position the training objectives of the specialty, refine the characteristics of running the specialty, highlight the characteristics of the applied chemistry discipline, focus on the development of mainstream chemistry, strengthen the modular construction of the curriculum, closely combine the school's school orientation, and promote the development of the specialty from the aspects of teaching staff, curriculum and textbook construction. Professor Zhang Wenqing pointed out that the training objectives and orientation of the applied chemistry specialty should be set according to the school's purpose and regional development strategy, and fully reflect the characteristics of the applied chemistry specialty on this basis. At the same time, it is necessary to build an overall curriculum evaluation system from the three levels of value shaping, knowledge imparting and ability training, based on the foundation of moral education, emphasizing the comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor.


Professor Zhao Naiqin, an expert of the Teaching Guidance Committee of the material specialty, proposed that the training objectives of the specialty should fully reflect the content of Ideological and moral education, and reflect the professional characteristics and ideas in terms of modern industrial development needs and regional characteristics. The training program should be set up in a modular manner, and the reading sequence of the courses should be interpreted through the course matrix diagram to facilitate the students to select and use the courses. In the construction of teaching materials, efforts should be made to build national level teaching materials and actively participate in the selection of materials in the 14th five year plan. Professor Cheng Jigui proposed from the aspects of professional training objectives and graduation requirements that, according to the different training objectives and requirements of science and engineering majors, we should pay attention to the cultivation of ability while imparting knowledge, and pay more attention to the embodiment of cultivating morality and cultivating people, which is not only reflected in the description of the training objectives, but also in the specific objectives of graduation requirements, meeting the requirements of "clarity, openness, measurability, support and coverage".


Professor Wu Zhijun, an expert of the Teaching Guidance Committee of the machinery specialty, suggested that each specialty should accurately target the world-famous and domestic first-class universities, find out the gap and make continuous improvement through the construction of specialty connotation, drive the construction of specialty and curriculum, constantly improve the talent training ability and level, and give guidance on the setting of all English courses, object-oriented and international training of the materials science and engineering specialty. He hopes that the major can form a training mode of "all English course - characteristic direction - internationalization of all English Majors", and teach students according to their aptitude and classification when teaching Chinese and English. Professor Liu Xiangdong pointed out that each specialty should determine the construction direction of the specialty according to the undergraduate specialty catalog of ordinary colleges and universities, accurately position, develop characteristics, serve industrial development and regional economy, and strengthen the leading role of scientific research achievements. At the same time, it is suggested to add interdisciplinary elective courses to increase students' freedom in choosing courses, promote students' autonomy in learning, and further enhance the cross integration of disciplines.

In the summary of the meeting, Li Guisheng pointed out that we need to face up to many shortcomings in professional construction. Professional construction also faces a series of problems such as "the curriculum is not new enough, the professional development features are few, and the professional connotation needs to be strengthened". Thanks for the visit and guidance of experts, the college will conduct in-depth discussion and improvement according to the suggestions of the seminar, and hope to further carry out offline communication activities with experts after the epidemic.


The holding of this seminar will help our college to promote the construction of first-class undergraduate majors, consolidate the achievements of engineering education certification, and promote the construction of new engineering and new liberal arts in an all-round way. It will also further implement the "six excellence and one top" plan 2.0, and continuously improve the quality of our school's personnel training.
