Autumn breezes bring comfort, as two festivals coincide. To enrich campus cultural life, inherit fine traditional Chinese culture, foster young students’ devotion to the country, and build a warm, reunion-filled and festive atmosphere, the Cultural and Creative Department of the Student Union of the College of Materials and Chemistry held a Mid-Autumn and National Day garden party in the First Meeting Room of the Library and Information Center on September 29. The event drew active participation from students across the college to celebrate the festivals together. The garden party proceeded in good order with a lively vibe, blending traditional charm and youthful energy.

Integrating Mid-Autumn customs and National Day themes, the garden party featured a diverse range of experiences including message-writing for best wishes, traditional recreational games, fun challenges and handcraft creation. Students picked up brushes to write sincere blessings for the motherland, conveying their emotions through writing and paying tribute with heartfelt words, expressing the sincere patriotism of youth in the new era. In traditional games such as pitch-pot, coin-grasping and lantern riddles, participants enthusiastically took on challenges and interacted with one another. Through contests of wit and concentration, they experienced the unique appeal of traditional folk customs and the profound heritage of traditional culture.Meanwhile, the handcraft zone was bustling. Students made Mid-Autumn sachets and creative lanterns by hand. In hands-on practice, they perceived the meaning of reunion for Mid-Autumn, captured the beauty of autumn, and preserved exclusive festive ritual. Mooncakes were thoughtfully prepared on site, allowing students to feel the warmth of reunion and enjoy a pleasant festival on campus.

Through fun interactions, participating students gained closer access to traditional festivals and appreciated cultural charm. Amid words of blessings, they cultivated patriotism and strengthened their ideals and convictions. The event not only enriched students’ after-class cultural life, relieved academic pressure and strengthened friendship among peers, but also adopted immersive cultural education to make folk traditions tangible and accessible, and embed patriotism deeply into students’ minds. It fully demonstrated the positive and vigorous spirit of materials and chemistry students.

Beyond the college-wide garden party, each class also launched heartwarming dual-festival activities tailored to their learning conditions. For Class 24280301 (Chemistry), Head Teacher Cheng Ping together with class cadres prepared festival gifts including mooncakes, stationery and drinks. While extending festive greetings, they offered guidance on academic planning, postgraduate recommendation and postgraduate entrance exams, helping students clarify academic goals for their third year.Led by Head Teacher Gu Lijian, Class 26334116 (Engineering Manufacturing) held a freshman-themed class meeting “Full Moon for Mid-Autumn, Tribute to National Day” on September 23, guiding new students to experience the festive atmosphere and nurture patriotism. Head Teacher Ding Weihang of Class 26334118 (Engineering Manufacturing) organized a special activity “Sharing Mid-Autumn Stories over Mooncakes”. Using mooncakes as a medium, students shared Mid-Autumn customs from their hometowns and enjoyed festive warmth on campus.Under the leadership of Head Teacher Li Lei, Class 26334117 (Engineering Manufacturing) hosted the “Celebrating Two Festivals Together Night” with lantern riddles, magic shows and singing performances. All students joined in singing Ode to the Motherland to express their love for the country. Class 24280102 (Materials Science) held a concise themed activity. After announcements on start-of-semester affairs, students shared personal goals, played casual games and consulted on academic issues, helping them sort out paths for growth amid the festive atmosphere. From the immersive college-wide garden party to warm interactions in individual classes, this series of activities delivered festive care to students and fostered a peaceful, auspicious campus atmosphere celebrating the nation and family together.

The successful holding of these dual-festival activities serves as a vivid practice of the college’s efforts to promote campus cultural development and implement cultural and ideological-political education. In the future, relying on traditional festivals, the College of Materials and Chemistry will further develop its cultural education platform, regularly organize diverse and innovative cultural and sports activities, and continuously build a positive, warm and harmonious campus environment.
