On September 11, Zhao Zhen, President of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, and his entourage travelled to Changchun to visit Mr. Wang Erkang, distinguished alumnus of the university, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences. Relevant officials from the University Party and Administrative Office and the School of Materials and Chemistry accompanied the visit.
Zhao Zhen extended sincere greetings to Academician Wang Erkang and briefed him on the university’s development in recent years as well as preparations for its 120th anniversary. Academician Wang Erkang fondly recalled every detail of his studies at his alma mater, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the nurturing he received from USST, and took great delight in the university’s achievements over recent years.
To celebrate the university’s 120th anniversary, Academician Wang Erkang gladly inscribed the couplet: “A centenary-and-twenty USST, with its torch passed on endlessly; Nurture talents to prosper the nation and embark on a brand-new journey!” The inscription embodies his warm wishes and earnest expectations for his alma mater. Academician Wang also recorded a video to send sincere blessings to all faculty, students and alumni at home and overseas. He encouraged the university to uphold its educational mission, carry forward the glory of its 120 years and achieve new accomplishments in the new era.
Subsequently, President Zhao and his entourage visited the Research Center for Intelligent Electrochemical Instruments and the Science and Technology Exhibition Hall of the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry. They gained an in-depth understanding of cutting-edge research in electroanalytical chemistry, the development of research platforms and achievements in talent cultivation. They experienced Academician Wang Erkang’s scholarly spirit of devoting himself to frontline research and scaling new heights in science, and learned about the history, scientific innovation and major contributions of the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry. The visit laid a solid foundation for future university-institute cooperation and academic exchanges.
