Autumn breezes usher in new arrivals, and the university builds momentum for a new chapter in its 120th year. On September 12, the School of Materials and Chemistry, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, smoothly launched the registration for 2026 postgraduate freshmen. More than 300 new postgraduates from across the country gathered in the big family of USST Materials and Chemistry, with aspirations in their hearts.
At the registration site, college leaders, faculty members and counsellors coordinated on-site work, while student volunteers worked in divisions and provided thoughtful support. They offered one-stop services including campus navigation, document verification, registration procedures and supplies collection. To highlight the school’s distinctive features and humanistic care, the college presented each freshman with a custom polo shirt and professional lab coat, helping them gain a sense of belonging and a ceremonial feeling right at the start of their postgraduate journey.
During registration, college leaders visited freshmen dormitories to offer greetings and had cordial conversations with new students. They inquired about accommodation conditions and adaptation to campus life, patiently answered questions concerning academic planning, daily campus affairs and scientific research, and advised freshmen to quickly adapt to postgraduate schedules, adjust their physical and mental well-being, develop rigorous research ethics, and integrate into the Materials and Chemistry community.
To enrich the enrolment experience and showcase disciplinary characteristics, against the backdrop of preparations for the university’s 120th anniversary celebration, the college held a special welcome event titled “Elements Meet USST, Wishes Written in Elements”. New students selected various chemical elements and wrote youthful messages and anniversary blessings inspired by element properties. These discipline-themed blessing stickers embodied the aspirations and original intentions of young scholars. Working together, freshmen assembled the stickers into the figure “120”. In this unique way exclusive to Materials and Chemistry students, they paid tribute to the university’s 120th anniversary and captured precious youthful mementos marking the beginning of their postgraduate studies.
Meanwhile, the college designed a variety of creative photo props to create a vibrant welcome atmosphere. Playful slogans such as “Master of Materials & Chemistry”, “Science Makes Materials Wonderful” and “Truly Outstanding in Materials & Chemistry” combine the identity of the university and school with youthful trends. Freshmen took photos with their families to freeze these precious admission moments, immersing themselves in the campus vibe and the vitality of the school.
Great materials empower myriad chemical transformations; the 120th anniversary marks a brand-new journey. All 2026 postgraduate freshmen will uphold passion and original aspiration, ground themselves in their disciplines, devote themselves to research, forge ahead steadfastly.
