President Zhao Zhen of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology Leads a Delegation to Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Co., Ltd. for Cooperation Agreement Signing

On the afternoon of August 31, Zhao Zhen, President of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, led a team to Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Co., Ltd. for exchanges on cooperative research‑and‑development projects and joint talent training, and attended the signing ceremony of the Cooperation Agreement on Waste Plastic Recycling Technology Development. Relevant officials from the University’s Academic Affairs Office, Research Institute, Graduate School, and School of Materials and Chemistry participated in the discussions. Sha Yu, Director and Party Secretary of Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Co., Ltd., was present and delivered an address.

In his welcoming remarks, Sha Yu stated that as a central‑state‑owned enterprise, Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Co., Ltd. has always regarded deepening university‑enterprise cooperation and supporting talent development as an important responsibility. In November 2025, the two sides jointly established the Joint Training Practice Base for Outstanding Engineers (Special Program). Over the past two years, university‑enterprise cooperation has continued to deepen. Regular exchanges have been conducted notably on technologies including magnetized‑water high‑pressure atomization cooling and high‑value catalytic conversion of waste plastics, advancing research work in depth and laying a solid foundation for the signing of this agreement.

In his address, Zhao Zhen noted that positive progress has been achieved in talent training and research project collaboration. A number of postgraduate students have taken internships at the enterprise, marking solid strides in cultivating outstanding engineers. The University will further deepen industry‑university‑research collaboration with the enterprise to elevate their cooperation to higher levels and broader domains.

Special‑topic discussions were held on the progress of ongoing cooperative projects, research on magnetized‑water high‑pressure atomization cooling coupled with carbon powder filtration, development of high‑value catalytic conversion and engineering technologies for waste plastics, novel mesoporous catalysts for continuous synthesis of fine chemicals, and the development of the Custom‑tailored Engineer Program for Carbon Neutrality.

In terms of technical cooperation, the two parties signed the Cooperation Agreement on Waste Plastic Recycling Technology Development. They will further focus on the enterprise’s needs for technological upgrading and transformation, accelerate the implementation of ongoing projects, and strive to improve economic and social benefits.

Both sides agreed to establish a regular communication mechanism to advance the implementation of existing projects, continuously expand areas of cooperation, jointly build the university‑enterprise partnership into a regional model, and collectively support the high‑quality development of the green and low‑carbon industry as well as the cultivation of outstanding engineering‑talented personnel.
