On July 3, 2026, the completion ceremony for the first‑ever Graduate Minor Program of “AI + Green Chemistry and Carbon Metrology Management” at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology was successfully held in Room 300, the Fourth Teaching Building. As a distinctive minor program launched for graduate students for the first time by the School of Materials and Chemistry, it features interdisciplinary integration and has innovatively established a characteristic training system for compound talents in emerging engineering disciplines.
Li Wei, Vice‑Dean of the School of Materials and Chemistry, teaching faculty from both the university and enterprise partners including Zhang Shuping, Ma Jie, Ma Zhong, Zhu Yuanzheng and Lian Zichao, Jia Ying and other enterprise representatives from the co‑organizer Shanghai Chemical Industry Environmental Protection Monitoring Station, as well as all students completing the minor program attended the ceremony. The event was hosted by Teacher Ma Jie.

First of all, Vice‑Dean Li Wei delivered a speech on behalf of the school. He fully affirmed the innovative value of the interdisciplinary and practice‑oriented training mode of the “AI + Green Chemistry and Carbon Metrology Management” minor program. By deeply integrating artificial intelligence technology, green chemistry and carbon metrology‑accounting technologies, the minor program closely responds to the development requirements of the national “Dual‑Carbon” Strategy and has explored a brand‑new path for the cultivation of innovative and interdisciplinary talents under the background of emerging engineering education in the school.
Professor Zhang Shuping, Program Director of the minor program, extended her congratulations to all participants who had successfully finished all courses and obtained the dual completion certificates. She pointed out that the success of the first‑session minor program would not have been possible without the strong support and collaborative empowerment of co‑operating entities such as Shanghai Chemical Industry Environmental Protection Monitoring Station. The launch of this minor program is a response to the university’s comprehensive higher‑education reform plan. It focuses on improving students’ innovative literacy and practical capabilities, precisely empowers high‑quality talent training for emerging engineering disciplines, and effectively consolidates the school’s characteristic education system.
At the ceremony, student representatives shared their learning experiences and insights one after another. Student Zhu Jun talked about his gains: first, remarkable improvement in practical capabilities; second, firmer faith in career development, as well as greatly expanded professional vision and industrial awareness. Student Yin Wanru shared her emotional takeaways from the minor program. The impressive visit to Baosteel’s hot‑rolling production line, the inspiration from low‑carbon ship designs at Jiangnan Shipyard, and exposure to cutting‑edge analytical technologies at Shimadzu enabled her to gain first‑hand insight into the cutting‑edge trends of the industry. Starting from theoretical lectures, students went on to independently complete carbon‑footprint accounting and pollutant‑source‑apportionment modeling, which realized the effective transformation from theoretical knowledge to practical professional competence and achieved the goal of applying what they have learned.
Completion of this session marks a lifelong journey of growth. Although the courses of the minor program have come to a successful close, the academic philosophy of “applying knowledge to practice and uniting knowledge with action” has been deeply rooted in every participant’s mind. In the future, all graduates will carry forward the achievements and insights gained from this program, delve into the integrated fields of green chemistry, carbon metrology and artificial intelligence, actively practice the “Dual‑Carbon” development philosophy, empower industrial advancement with professional expertise, and keep forging ahead and pursuing excellence on the path of knowledge‑seeking and practical work.
