Party Building Leads to Embracing Craftsmanship, University-Enterprise Collaboration Opens a New Chapter — School of Materials and Chemistry Conducts Party Building Activity at Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel Project

To further promote the deep integration of Party building and professional work, and to gain an in-depth understanding of the innovation and strategic significance of national heavy equipment, the School of Materials and Chemistry at Shanghai University of Science and Technology organized a Party building practice activity at the construction headquarters of the Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel project of the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hefei High-Speed Railway on November 11. Through on-site visits to shield tunneling machine models and listening to stories of overcoming challenges, the participants witnessed the robust strength of Chinese engineering. This further strengthened the patriotic sentiment and sense of responsibility among Party member faculty, consolidating the driving force for the integrated development of Party building and professional work.

Huang Chunhui, Party Branch Secretary of the Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel project under China Railway Tunnel Group, vividly shared the exemplary deeds of the vanguard teams of Party members during the development of the Linghanghao shield tunneling machine and the tunnel excavation process. Faced with challenges such as the precise control of the 15.4-meter-diameter shield tunneling machine, complex geological conditions, and extremely high water pressure, the Party members in the project team demonstrated a craftsman spirit of striving for excellence and pursuing perfection to overcome difficulties and achieve continuous technological breakthroughs. Their sense of responsibility and innovative spirit deeply moved the attending Party member faculty.

In front of the shield tunneling model, faculty from the school engaged in in-depth discussions with professional research teams on the issue of cutter wear in shield tunneling machines. They proposed solutions to enhance cutter wear resistance and expressed expectations for future collaboration with relevant parties to jointly address technical challenges. Party member representatives held thorough exchanges on topics such as Party building + technological innovation and the alignment of talent cultivation with engineering practice. Everyone unanimously agreed that the Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel project team's practice of integrating Party building throughout the engineering process provides a vivid example and classic model for the deep integration of Party building and professional work in the school.

The School of Materials and Chemistry will take this activity as an opportunity to fully leverage the vanguard and exemplary role of Party members, promote the deep integration of Party building and professional work, and advance the synergistic development of Party building with disciplinary construction, scientific innovation, and talent cultivation. In the field of disciplinary construction, the school will focus on national strategic needs and optimize disciplinary layouts. In scientific innovation, Party member backbone personnel will take the lead in forming interdisciplinary research teams to break through key core technologies. In talent cultivation, ideological and political education will be integrated with professional teaching to achieve mutual promotion, contributing materials and chemistry expertise and strength to serving national strategies and advancing the development of Shanghai’s 3+6 industrial system.
