School Holds Fifth Meeting of Second Alumni Association Council

On the afternoon of October 25, the Fifth Meeting of the Second Council of the School Alumni Association was officially held in Room 108 of the Gezhi Hall. The meeting aimed to celebrate the 119th anniversary of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), further strengthen the bonds between alumni and their alma mater, consolidate alumni resources and strengths, and inject momentum into the high-quality development of the School. Attendees included Cao Ying, Party Secretary of the School; Dong Xiaoliang, Deputy Party Secretary; Li Shengjuan, Vice Dean; Li Xiang, Youth Member of the Party Committee and Chairperson of the Trade Union; Zhu Li, President of the Second Council of the Alumni Association; Vice President Du Jitao; and council members Cai Min, Lu Weiyi, Wu Guanfeng, Li Lifu, Pan Jiao, and Fan Xiaoyin. The meeting was chaired by Dong Xiaoliang, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Materials and Chemistry.

Cao Ying first extended a warm welcome to the attending alumni on behalf of all faculty and students. She highlighted that as one of Shanghai's first pilot institutions for comprehensive reform, the university is simultaneously advancing the creation of Double First-Class disciplines. Leveraging this opportunity, the School is striving to apply for a doctoral program in Materials Science and Engineering, recruit national-level high-level talents, and secure key projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The School has consistently actively promoted the integration of industry and education, maintaining a leading graduate employment rate within the university for many years, with students achieving repeated success in numerous national-level competitions, reflecting the School's thriving development. She called on alumni to continue supporting the School, contributing to disciplinary development, talent cultivation, and brand building, and jointly fostering an ecosystem of alumni empowering the School and the School enabling alumni. She also expressed hope that alumni would leverage the Alumni Association to enhance connectivity, exchange, support, and mutual assistance, offering suggestions for the university's development and contributing to its high-quality growth.

Li Shengjuan provided a comprehensive and detailed report to the attending alumni on the School's key initiatives over the past year, giving them a clear understanding of the latest developments and strong momentum of the School's progress. She emphasized that every step of the School's advancement relies on the attention and support of its alumni, and she looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with alumni in the future to jointly elevate the School's development to new heights.

Dong Xiaoliang delivered a specialized report on the student affairs work of the School of Materials and Chemistry. In 2025, the School achieved remarkable results in student employment, providing categorized guidance tailored to the characteristics of different student groups and expanding job opportunities through corporate visits, thereby supporting students in their employment and further studies. The Youth League Committee concurrently advanced ideological guidance, organizational building, and the cultivation of innovation competitions, strengthened communication and guidance through new media platforms, and expanded the coverage of financial support, offering multi-dimensional assistance for student growth.

Zhu Li summarized the work on alumni and fundraising over the past year. She reviewed the efforts made by the Alumni Association in serving alumni and promoting communication and cooperation between alumni and the School, and outlined plans for future work. She emphasized that the Alumni Association will continue to serve as a bridge connecting alumni and the School, optimizing services to provide more considerate support for alumni and contributing to the School's better development.

During the meeting, the attending alumni actively participated in discussions, deeply exchanging views on topics such as how the School can advance high-quality development and how the Alumni Association can better serve as a bridging link. The alumni unanimously expressed their commitment to staying true to the original purpose of joining the Alumni Association, maintaining their profound connection with the School, and continuing to fully support the work of the Alumni Association. They pledged to contribute to the School's development, working together to achieve mutual benefits and shared growth.
